NTA to Conduct IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2021 for 232 seats !!!

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), a Central University, has released PhD Admission Notification for 2021. The National Testing Agency, an Autonomous Agency under Ministry of Education, will conduct the Entrance Test.

Total PhD Seats: The total number of PhD seats are 232 across 23 subjects.

Key Dates:  

Online Submission of Application Form through Website (https://ignou.nta.ac.in/) 05 December 2021 to 22 December 2021 (upto 05:00 P.M.)

Last date of Successful transaction of fee through Credit/Debit Card/Net Banking/UPI 23 December 2021 (upto 11:50 P.M.)

Eligibility Conditions: The Ph D Programme is offered in strict compliance of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for award of M.Phil/ Ph.D Degrees) Regulations, 2016 and amendments thereto from time to time.

Master’s Degree from a University recognized by UGC in the relevant discipline with atleast 55% marks [50%marks in the case of SC,ST and OBC(Non-creamy Layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s Degree prior to19th September,1991] excluding grace marks.

Application fee (Non-refundable):

For Online Application to PhD Programme (July 2020), the application fee is Rs.1000/- (for candidates belonging to General/ OBC) and Rs.800/- (for candidates belonging to SC/ST/EWS)

Central Universities CET for UG & PG Admissions from 2022-23, UGC NET for PhD Admissions: UGC

In a major development, the University Grants Commission (UGC), the regulator for Higher Education, has asked the Central Universities to prepare for the Central Universities Common Entrance Test or CUCET for admissions to various Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) programmes from the academic year 2022-23.

The UGC has also informed that the score of the National Eligibility Test or UGC NET score, shall be used for admission to PhD Programmes in Central Universities, from AY 2022-23 wherever feasible.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct Common University Entrance Test (CUCET) for admission to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

CUCET, which is envisaged in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, was scheduled to start in the 2021-22 academic session. However, amid COVID 19 pandemic, the government put it on hold.

In a Letter Dt 26 November 2021, issued by the UGC to the Vice Chancellors of 45 Central Universities, the UGC CUCET will conducted in 13 languages in which NTA already conducting JEE and NEET examinations.

The Letter was sent to 45 central universities, including Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI).  Hence, it appears that DU, JNU, JMI will participate in the CUCET 2022-23.
