Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Japan for the QUAD Summit. Among the many initiatives, the Quad Fellowship programme has been launched as well. The programme aims at bringing the best minds in STEM of the four countries – USA, India, Australia and Japan for a collaborative and innovative development. With the launch of the initiative, PM Modi has sent out a message to the Indian students, encouraging them to make the most of this initiative. Calling it an excellent platform for brilliant minds to interact, PM Modi has hoped that Indian students from STEM or Science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics would apply for the program. “I encourage our students to apply for the Quad Fellowship programme and join the next generation of STEM leaders and innovators building a better future for humanity” he said in his message to the Indian Student. But what is it and who can apply for it?

What is Quad Fellowship Programme

Quad Fellowship programme is an academic endeavor under which the brightest of the minds from the four QUAD countries – USA, India, Japan and Australia would come together. The aim is to create a network of experts ‘committed to advancing innovation & collaboration across sectors’. The programme would give those selected the chance to pursue Masters and Doctoral degree in STEM courses from the top universities in the USA. It is essentially a scholarship programme that would fund 100 students every year. 25 students from each of the four countries would get this scholarship. As per preliminary information, each fellow would get $50,000 onetime financial award to cover the tuition and research fees and expenses. Apart from this, the fellows would also be eligible up to $25,000 funding to cover other costs. More details are awaited and would be released soon.

Students who have completed or would complete their graduation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) by August 2023 are eligible to apply. Since the fellowship aims at bringing the best minds from the world together, an excellent academic record would be required. Students who have completed their Masters are also eligible to apply for Research Based programs.

Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT), a state university in Uttar Pradesh, has announced PhD Admission for 2022-23. The total number of PhD Seats are 93: Full Time 30 ; Part Time 63.

PhD Admission will be held through Malaviya Entrance Test (MET).

Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee International Institute of Information Technology Naya Raipur, popularly known as IIIT Naya Raipur, has released PhD Admissions for MS (By Research) and PhD during Autumn Semester 2022.

The disciplines in which PhD program will be offered are: Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Physics, Mathematics, Humanities, and Management. Moreover, M.S.(R) program will be offered in any discipline of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE).

PhD Admission Types: Institute Scholar, Individual Fellowship, Sponsored Category, Project Staff, Part Time, Institute Staff Of Iiit NR (IS),  Self Financed,  On Deputation.

 Institute Scholar: An applicant who joins Ph.D. at IIIT Naya Raipur under this category gets financial assistantship from the Institute.

All candidates seeking admission under Institute Scholar category shall have to possess requisite marks/grades in the qualifying examination given below:

Eligibility Criteria:

1. The minimum educational qualification for admission is a Master’s degree with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline.
2. The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master level degree.
3. All candidates seeking admission under Institute Scholar category shall have to possess requisite marks/grades in the qualifying examination given below:

7. Applicants under INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP category should have qualified CSIR/ UGC/ DAE/ NBHM/ DST/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or secured funding from such an agency. They are not entitled for Institute Assistantship.
8. Applicants under Sponsored (Full-time) category must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least two years of professional experience in the respective field.
9. Applicants under on-deputation category should have at least two years of professional experience in the respective field.

Symbiosis International Deemed University (SIU), Pune has released All India Entrance Exam for PhD Programs, known as PET 2022. PhD Admission is available in the following research subjects: Computer Studies, Media and Communication, Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Engineering.

The closing date for submission of online application has been extended to 31 May 2022.

Given the social distancing guidelines amidst the COVID -19 pandemic, and with a desire to provide aspiring students an opportunity to start their Ph.D. programme without loss of time, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) will be conducting the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET 2022) in an online mode this year.

Candidates with NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil. or are UGC/CSIR/ICMR DBT/RGNF/MANF/DST Inspire & NBHM Fellows, are exempted from the entrance test during the validity period of the certificate/award. However, such candidates have to mandatorily appear for the personal interview.

Key Dates: The online application registration commences from 22 April 2012. The online application is extended to 31 May 2022. The online PET will be held on 25 June 2022.

Eligibility:

A candidate seeking admission to the PhD Programme must satisfy any one of the following eligibility requirements:

• Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency.
• Relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently-Abled categories or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
• Candidates who have successfully completed the M.Phil. Degree with 55% marks or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed), shall be eligible to take admission to the Ph. D. Degree. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST//differently-abled categories.
• Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programme.
• Master’s degree or equivalent in any subject with 55% marks plus minimum of five years of work experience in the area of interdisciplinary research in which admission is being sought. Interdisciplinary research involves two or more academic, scientific, or artistic disciplines. The candidate must show evidence of his/her relevant experience in interdisciplinary area of research.
